The Woodland Games encourages children to capture the spirit of the 2014 Commonwealth Games by taking part in sporting related activities in their local woods.
It aims to get people outdoors, enjoying the trees and nature on their doorstep.
Official Games mascot, Clyde, hosted the first Woodland Games at Garscadden Woods, Drumchapel. Around 90 pupils from four local primary schools competed in various sports including cross country running, archery, tug of war, javelin, long jump, relay and short putt as well as activities like tree touch.
The winning school, St Clare’s Primary, was awarded with a special oak trophy.
The Woodland Games is not exclusive to schools and you don’t need special equipment for every activity. Community Groups and families can set up their own mini-games. Read our activities sheet to find out more.
