All About Owls

The Commonwealth Woods are filled to the brim with wildlife, whether it is amphibians, mammals or birds. Some are very easy to spot, others are more difficult and many go into hibernation over the winter months. We love it when we spot wildlife in their natural habitat, it reminds us that the woodlands are their home and we are visitors.

Castlemilk Woods has their own resident species of owl, the Tawny Owl. They are a reddish brown colour and the size of a pigeon with a round body and face. You would be incredibly lucky to spot one of these beautiful birds although they are the most common owl in the UK, they only come out at night making them hard to spot.

If you are interested in owls, Castlemilk Park is giving you the chance to get a closer look at these fascinating birds from 2-4pm on Wednesday 19th October at their All About Owls event. Owl Magic is bringing along a selection of owls for everyone to see and learn more about.  The event is free and attendees will get a chance to hold one of the owls as well as get involved with owl related arts and crafts.

Have you spotted any owls in the Commonwealth Woods? Send us your pictures!
