Drumchapel 5k is a roaring success

Published on: Friday 23rd October 2015

Over 60 people took part in our first Drumchapel 5k ‘With a Twist’ in September through our Cleddans Burn and Garscadden West woodlands.

The event was a re-launch of the community fun run that started in 2005 until 2011. It was previously held on the roads and streets in Drumchapel, the ‘With a Twist’ was to reflect the multi-terrain that the route covered.

The new 2k and 5k routes allowed people of all ages to run, walk or jog alongside family and friends while enjoying the outdoors.

Chester Nursery families who ran the 5k, said: “We’ve had a fabulous day, thanks again for allowing us to have a fun day”.

The event was organised by our Community Ranger for Drumchapel, Derek Shannan, who said: “The day was a great success.  It was amazing to see everyone come together and enjoy the woodlands.  We have such a great space within Cleddans Burn and Garscadden West and to use it in this way, watching everyone enjoy the outdoors was something special.”

After a successful first year Derek is already making plans for next year’s event and hopes more people will come along and join in.

Derek adds: “We’ll definitely be doing it again next year.  It’s great to see so many people from the community and further afield come down, take part and enjoy it. The other 8 community partners were great to work with and it shows what we can achieve. ”

The event was held in partnership with Forest Enterprise Scotland, Drumchapel L.I.F.E, Police Scotland, Glasgow City Council Roads Department, Clean Safe Glasgow, Goals, Great Western Golf, Drumchapel Baptist Church and G15 Youth Project.
